Dancing Dreams

Talk about a Hot Tamale Train, the first 5 mins of SYTYCD were sizzling!

I can't help myself. Watching these kids work so hard, displaying their talent and hoping to be picked resonates with me. I'm mean, don't we all want to be PICKED!
(um, yes hard-wired for actors)

I empathize with their journeys to get it right, their ability to learn new skills, and to anticipate what the judges like. I guess this explains my addiction to reality tv... well, not ALL reality tv. I have a weakness for shows where contestants earn their rewards, where they demonstrate a talent that otherwise might go unnoticed and unrecognized. I'm a sucker for the underdog and LOVE to root for them.

After all, good drama is based on this: discovering characters, relating to them, being challenged by them and ultimately not knowing their fates. I will predict, guess, speculate and argue but ultimately ANYTHING could happen. And, I want MY pick to win! Because then in some small way, I WIN!!!!

Anyway, THIS is how shows stay on my DVR.

List of Favs:
So You Think You Can Dance
American Idol
Top Chef
Project Runway

List of Closet Favs:
The Fashion Show
Make Me a Supermodel
I Survived a Japanese Game Show

Thanks for the new blog Megan! I'm a sucker for American Idol and I always root for the underdog. I haven't watched any of the other shows you listed. I have too many kids in the house - I barely have time for American Idol. LOL I can't wait to finally meet you in a couple of weeks.

  10. Wow, fitting in two blogs in one week, I am beginning to wonder if you really do have super powers.
I agree about the reality shows that require TALENT. Breaks my heart to see my favorites voted off these shows because you can tell how hard they work & how much they want it. (On a side note, I totally feel bad for Nigel on SYTYCD- the man must have lost the hearing in his left ear by now with all the Hot Tamale Train screams. LOL)

    Thanks again for the blog!

  13. Megan, that picture is too cute!!! :D

I also love American Idol and Project Runway. Very inspiring shows. And I love when my picks win, too. ;)

Some other shows I love are Survivor, The Amazing Race, Hell’s Kitchen, and Big Brother. Those four shows aren’t as much about talent as they are pure entertainment. :P

    Thanks for blogging! :)

You are so right about rooting for the underdog! Especially when it comes to rooting for my 0-16 Detroit Lions :/ Gotta keep hoping, right?!! Anyways, your blog is awesome and thank you so much for doing it!

  18. I have to say that I LOVE your definition of good drama - it so perfectly encapsulates what we all look for in our favorite tv shows, books, movies, etc. And I couldn't agree more with you - we all want someone we can root for, someone we relate to and can cheer on! It's such a wonderful feeling to see that person achieve such well-deserved success and to know that it's happened to someone who's not only talented, but good-hearted and kind.

Okay, so ... reality tv! I love your top two choices (although I've taken to lowering the volume every time I predict there's another Hot Tamale scream about to happen)! Idol is my very favorite of them all ... I've watched every season and I'm that person who will always vote for my favorites (838 times for Carrie Underwood on the finale that year ... dedication is good, right?). Okay, so another question for you ... who's your all-time favorite Idol finalist? SYTYCD finalist?

Thank you so much for taking the time out of what sounds like your incredibly busy schedule to do another blog. You really ARE Superwoman, aren't you? :-)

  20. Wow another blog!?!?! So very cool! And another awesome pic!

Thanks Megan, for taking the time and sharing. It is always appreciated.

I can't help but root for the underdog. It's a compulsion. Although it's heartbreaking if they don't triumph.

    3 more weeks. Cannot wait!!!

  21. SYTYCD is the best show everrrrr! It makes me happy that you love it too. One of my friends promised me that she would try out and then she sneakily didn't. Needless to say I was pissed! I guess I will have to take her there myself next time because she is THAT good. Btw, Ali thinks you should sign up for Real Housewives... just kidding she didn't say that, but she is creepily always talkng about Real Housewives of NJ (she is all upset that it ended). And she will kill me for this, lol. See you in 3 weeks! Much love!

  23. Hey Megan,

You are a fan of SYTYCD too. It is also one of my guilty pleasures. And I do agree with you Thursday’s 1st 5 minutes were hot. I think watching the kids try to achieve their goal resonates with all of us in a way, that’s why I think talent-related reality shows are so popular. Anyway… I’m glad to hear from you and I miss seeing you on our screens everyday. I have a very good feeling that that is about to change. I can’t wait for the next blog.

  26. Well put! Ain't nothin like that feeling u get when u score "a win" - no matter what it regards. Achieving your personal best and being recognized for it is like no other. Whether for yourself, a loved one or third party like a favorite sports team (Go Red Sox!) or THE most-deserving actress:)

That must be so cool for you to watch the fashion reality shows having such personal perspective. For me this summer, watching men and women get tossed awkwardly about on the Big Balls or sucker punched on Wipeout is great entertainment.

Wishing you that "win" today and everyday!
