summer, summer, summer...

that is my excuse. the list gets longer, if i can bother to write stuff down, and one by one things do get done. but truthfully i find myself just putting most stuff off until tomorrow. its working pretty well for me since i have my handy-dandy excuse.

i get the kids off to camp, grumble all the way to the gym lecturing myself that i can defy age by getting back into my skinny jeans. on the way home i contemplate all the things i'm going to do after i take a shower but then decide i simply MUST have a 5 minute nap.

2 hours later i realize its time to get ready to pick up the kids. after i get them home and snacked up (a 2 hour process), i decide we all need a little rest after such a long and hot day. the kids take turns with the relaxation viewing selections. dinnertime follows with tales of the day in between demands to return to the table and finish eating so we can play the game of how many times does mom tell the kids its bath time.

more good times follow with pajamas and treats and toothbrushes and books after which the biggest decision of the day comes: beer or bills. (hum the jeopardy theme with me) i think by now you know the obvious choice. the day ends with my beloved dvr and new bedroom suite surround sound. depending on the amount of tasks completed on the list, little green notebook accompanies me as i map out all the things i am not going to do tomorrow.

i'm using my resolution to just own it. oliver told me last night as i tucked him bed and stayed instead of rushing off to answer emails that he was having the BEST summer ever. things are really getting done and work responsibilities are met despite the summer haze, but the way i look at it, august is closed in europe!

oh look, i blogged. now i can check off one thing on my list. looks like i had a productive day!

  3. I'm a list person myself, but you know, sometimes the best kind of list is the one where you "schedule" time for memories that will last a lifetime. It certainly sounds like that's what you've been doing not only for Oliver and Audrey, but for yourself, as well - giving everyone the best summer ever! And really, what better way to spend a summer than by creating these special moments and memories that will last forever? :)

  4. Hi megan,
Thanks for checking this one off your list!It is nice to hear about your everyday life and how we can relate to things you say and do.You do such a great job with the gym routine because I know there are so many excuses that pop in my mind not to workout but just staying in same size for a year is nice. You look great in your skinny jeans but they are not on my list--somehow sweets get on my list and I can't keep it checked off.
Do you have a problem with your kids not listening to your normal voice. Its seems unless I start raising my voice tone up a little after each request things don't get heard!I could say its time for bath 2 or 3 times and no response. Here comes Dad and it only takes one time and off they go!Well it looks like you are getting time for you and thats good!
    Have good weekend!

  7. Hey Megan, Sounds like a normal day to me! i don't make lists because I never bother to look at them anyway! it seems to me that you are doing exactly what you need to do. And your happy children are proof of that. A very wise woman once blogged "you can't always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need." Sonn the kids will be back in school and you can be "productive" again.

As for the big decision, beer or bills", I'm with you, beer and blogging is definitely the way to go.

Enjoy your children, Megan. (btw, bribery and threats always work! LOL) Enjoy your summer! Productivenes is overrated!

  8. Your blog's are always so cute and witty!
Aww…summer the best time of the year! Especially when you work at a school and have your summers off, although lately it seems I am at work everyday getting everything ready for the next school year…ugh. I feel like I need a vacation and we haven’t even started back. To top it all off next month starts my last class to get my rank 1 in school counseling. The class ends at the beginning of December which also happens to be when my baby is due…between work, school, husband and a new baby I think my head will be spinning. After reading your blog I am inspired to at least stop and take a deep breath now and then and to remember what's really important in life...famly and friends. Anyways, drink a beer for me, I’m going to need it!

  9. Lists are what keep me sane. And the satisfaction of getting to cross something off said lists is great. Unfortunately, it seems for every one thing I get to cross off, two more get added. But "best summer ever" has got to make the chaos seem a bit more worthwhile, right? Embrace the beer and nap-age. Afterall, only a few more weeks until school starts (as well as SYTYCD season 6-Sept 9!!!!!!)

    Take Care~

PS: Craft project # 2....Just how much tile can one house have? LOL

  10. Hey Megan, Beer or bills? Is that even a choice?

Thanks for crossing the blog off your list, we love hearing from you but I think you must know that by now.

I'm a list person myself. Problem is that nowadays I tend to misplace/forget/lose them, and wracking my brain to remember where I "put" it takes more effort than half the tasks on the damn thing.

Anyway, so happy to read that you're having a relaxing summer and there is nothing better than knowing you are giving your kids their best one ever. What a feeling when you heard those words huh?

August being closed - well taking it off sounds like a plan, in fact, that's at the top of my list. If I ever find the damn thing...

As for being the luckiest girl in the world...well...your fans are the luckiest in the world to have you.

Oooh A Star is Born, another great Cukor film. Love him. I think I said that already. Oh and look, spelled right too. ;o) Love Judy Garland in anything and everything.

Speaking of Cukor, have you checked out Born Yesterday? I just watched it again recently and remembered how much I loved it. Judy Holliday was amazing. Another classic. I mean if you've got nothing to do that is. ;o)

  11. I was enjoying your blog, as usual, and read that as you took a few extra minutes to have a quiet moment with your son (i have the same ritual every single night with my son - LOVE it) he tells you he is having the "BEST summer ever" - OMG that is just awesome! Sounds to me like things are just as they should be and I'm so glad you and your family are enjoying each other and the summer together.

  12. I am such a procrastinator, it's disgusting. I always say I'll do something tomorrow and then I put it off until the next day, then the next day...

But it sounds like you're getting things done which is great! I should follow your example. I really need to.

And Oliver is just too cute! Glad he's having the BEST summer ever!

    Thanks for blogging,
    Kristina <3

  13. Well how does the old saying go? Rome wasnt built in a day...So embrace each of the "little" things that get done as a great accomplishment. Especially when it comes to taking care of yourself (good old siesta) or managing to give your kids the greatest summer thru the simplest of activities (card tournements). As far as getting into your favorite jeans (which i will never believe you cant)...when you put them on look at yourself in the Mirror and say "HA TAKE THAT" for you have just proven that nothing can stop a strong will & determination. Finally, Beer or bills??? I say tackle the bills... that way you can go outside on the back porch(assuming you have one) throw your feet up, really appreciating a nice cold one as you watch a gorgeous summer night sky filled with incredible stars & a beautiful full moon...
(must need accessory items include best gal pals or your very own knight in shining armour)

    Ida

Ps as far as europe closing down in august...very true...but it also makes it even more enjoyable when you visit, amalfi, sorrento, positano, francaville al mare etc etc etc...Especially in summer or 2010 0r 2011 lol.. If you need a excellent tour guide I think I know someone lol ;-)~

  14. Hi Megan - thanks for another fun blog. My lists typically get buried at the bottom of my purse. I grumble on the way to the gym AND the entire time I'm there - lol. My brain has taken the whole summer off because it is way toooo hot here in Texas to care about work or much else - ha.
    Stay cool.

  16. Awwww Its such a damn pleasure to read your blogs Megan!! Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us. Sounds like the kids are having a great summer and I guess if we have to have less Kate Howard on the screen then the kids are worth it cause I guess since your not filming as much, you have more time to spend with them and being a Mom is such a great thing! They are at an awesome age, Especially Oliver who will remember these days now, and what a totally rockin mom he has! Miss you.. Um.. New Item to add to your list.. ANOTHER MEGAN FAN EVENT!! Thanks.. Much Love Forever and a Day! Kimmie <3

  18. three things:

    1- beer trumps all
2- you already wore your skinny jeans to the event
    3- america's sytycd voting = *sad face*

    love your face =]

  19. I didn't even have time to cue jeopardy music cuz I already knew the answer. However, if you'd invest in the iPhone... you could pay your bills while watching So You Think You Can Dance while drinking a beer. Yep, it's that amazing. Can you tell I have a small addiction to all three things mentioned? Loves it!

  21. Dearest Megan..as always enjoyed reading your blog. I'm glad to see that you often include "blogging" on your things to do list which means you think of us :-) yay!
I can't believe it's already August and I haven't done most of the things I had on my list to do. I wish I was living in Europe so I could be on vacation right now. The only fun thing I have done this summer was seeing you at the event..or as Oliver said the " BEST " part of my Summer.

Stay happy, healthy and have fun with children.
Hope to see you soon on my screen. Love and support you always.

  22. Megan,

Pshhh, whatever lady...going to the gym to fit into your skinny jeans. *rme* I'll totally pretend that I didn't read that. LOL! Glad to hear that the summer has been a productive one. Hopefully it continues to be the "best summer ever" for you all.

*And just in case you need a little something extra to make Oliver's summer even better...

  23. Ok, so beer vs. bills, really??? :) Perhaps you didn't spend enough time at our table, we certainly could've helped you with that dilemna!! :)

I'm so glad that you are enjoying your summer!! I'm still waiting for you to come and help pack boxes, only 3 weeks left before the big move!!!

I also have to say how jealous I am that you are talking about skinny jeans, I miss the days where my jeans have buttons, damn maternity pants!! :)

Enjoy the rest of your summer, don't work too hard!!

  24. Thanks for making your blog as part of your check-off list. I know that we all like hearing from you now more than ever since we don't get to see you on our screens as much as we would like. Beer and Bills is there really ever a chose. I am glad Oliver is having a great summer and I hope you are too.I am hoping the fall brings a lot more Kate Howard to our screens. Take care.

  25. Grumbling all the way to the gym seems to be the typical reaction for many of us. But, like some people, we can't drive there with bated breath in anticipation of possibly seeing Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies in person! ;-) (one of the reasons why you signed your blog "the luckiest girl in the world") On the flip side, if you had a personal trainer come to your house, nap time could be extended 60 - 90 minutes. Decisions, decisions.......

Thank you for sharing 'a summer day in the life of a rock star.' Enjoy the rest of the summer with your family!

  26. Hey Lucky girl!
Sorry I am late on the comments...nephew came down and we have been to the rodeo for the last two nights. The last time I was at a rodeo--think I was 16 yr old....and that was a LONG time ago! Anyway, we had lots of fun and I feel for those cowboys......and the horses and bulls!

Thanks once again for blogging....they are so much fun to read. It really warms the heart to hear how much your children have enjoyed the time that you were able to spend with them this summer. It is something all children will remember when they grow up...the times that they spent with their parents!

Now don't forget, you have another thing on that list to cross off soon!!!! Remember, ring.... ring....ring....hello, I promise to let you talk!!!! haha! I am looking forward to it!
